A quick overview — The Sprouts new-lawn check-list:

✓ Keep it moist: The first two weeks = consistent moisture. A newly hydroseeded area needs to stay consistently moist during germination. Do not flood the lawn. Use short, gentle watering cycles that wet the surface without causing puddles, seed movement or runoff. The exact schedule depends on weather, soil type, slope, sun, and sprinkler coverage.

✓ Follow the 1/3 mowing rule: Plan the first mowing when most of the lawn reaches about 31⁄2-4 inches. Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mowing.

✓ Fertilize after establishment: Your hydroseed application includes starter fertilizer. After the first or second mowing, the lawn can be ready for its next fertilizer application. Use an appropriate balanced or lawn fertilizer at the product's labeled rate. Apply to dry turf and water it in thoroughly. Continue with a seasonal fertility program as the lawn matures.

✓ Limit traffic: Young grass looks usable before it is fully established. Keep people, pets and unnecessary equipment traffic to a minimum during the first 2-3 months.

✓ Give it time to mature: A hydroseeded lawn does not appear all at once. Under good conditions, some seed may begin germinating within the first week or so, while other grasses can take longer. Weather, temperature, moisture, and seed type all affect timing.
